  • In air-source heat pumps, as the name implies, the primary source of heat is the air. The heat from the air is extracted via the coolant coils in the outdoor unit. The evaporator turns the heat into a gas, the warmth is released, and the coolant re-condenses to a liquid and the loop continues. The same principle works in reverse for home cooling and is the basis for most home air conditioning systems.
